Did Federal Government Scrap JAMB UTME for 2026 Online

did federal government scrap jamb utme for 2026 online

Did Federal Government Scrap JAMB UTME for 2026? In recent weeks, social media has been buzzing with this very big question. “Has JAMB been scrapped?”
Screenshots, WhatsApp broadcasts, and online posts have been circulating, claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been cancelled following new changes to Nigeria’s admission process and the supposed removal of Mathematics for Arts students.

But before you believe everything you see online, let’s take a closer  and more honest  look at what’s really happening. Follow through to the end of this blog as we undress every rumours spreading out there.

Has JAMB Been Scrapped? What the Rumour claims

The viral messages claim that:

  • JAMB will no longer conduct entrance examinations for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
  • Students will now gain admission directly through their O’Level (WAEC/NECO) results.
  • Mathematics has been removed as a compulsory subject for Arts students.

While these claims sound dramatic (and even exciting for some), they are not true, not in the way people are spreading them. Let’s hear the real truth.

The Real Truth

As of 2026, JAMB has not been scrapped by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) remains the official examination body responsible for processing admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

What’s actually happening is that JAMB, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, has been reviewing ways to make the admission process smoother and more inclusive.

This includes considering O’Level performance as a stronger part of the overall admission score, but not as a replacement for JAMB.

So, instead of scrapping JAMB, the goal is to improve it, making the process fairer for all candidates across the country.

What About Mathematics and Arts Students?

Another part of the rumour says that Mathematics has been removed as a requirement for Arts students.

JAMB and WAEC have only restructured subject combinations to reflect the real needs of each discipline. For example, while pure Arts courses (like Theatre Arts, Linguistics, or Religious Studies) might not require Mathematics for admission, it’s still a compulsory subject in WAEC/NECO for certification purposes.

In other words, you still need to pass Mathematics but depending on your course, it might not count as one of your key admission subjects through JAMB.

What JAMB Officials Are Saying

According to recent statements from JAMB’s public relations office, the board has not been dissolved, replaced, or suspended.

The UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) will still be held as scheduled, and registration will proceed as normal.

They also warned candidates to ignore false information spreading online and to always verify updates directly from JAMB’s official website (www.jamb.gov.ng) or their verified social media accounts.

JAMB has not been scrapped. What’s changing is the effort to make Nigeria’s education system fairer, more modern, and more aligned with global standards. So, don’t get carried away by rumours.

Keep studying, keep preparing, and stay informed from reliable sources. Your university journey still begins with JAMB and being ready gives you a strong head start.
