In Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria, A pro-Tinubu support organization, the South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), has launched a major education support drive to cover Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration fees for 10,000 indigent students in Imo State.
The gesture, unveiled at an event in Owerri on Thursday, forms part of a broader plan to assist 50,000 students across the South-East region ahead of the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
SERHA’s National Coordinator, Belusochukwu Enwere, said the scheme is backed by President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to remove the financial barriers that many families face in accessing tertiary education. Under the programme, each of the five states in the South-East will benefit 10,000 students, beginning with Imo.
“Each scholarship covers the full cost of JAMB registration, giving 10,000 deserving students per state the chance to step confidently into university or polytechnic,” Enwere said, emphasising that the initiative is designed to lighten the burden on students and parents ahead of the UTME.
He added that the intervention aligns with broader national education priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including student loans and improvements in school infrastructure. SERHA also pledged to monitor and mentor the beneficiaries to ensure the support translates into academic success.
Hundreds of students, including those with physical disabilities, attended the flag-off ceremony, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. One beneficiary, who uses crutches, thanked organisers and pledged to prepare diligently for the examination.
The programme has drawn attention across the region with similar free registration initiatives being rolled out by the group in neighbouring states as part of the scholarship package.
